TREACHERY AT THE HEART OF CRIME

The death of alias Polo, a senior commander of the narco-criminal group Jhonier Arenas—linked to the dissident factions of Iván Mordisco—was not only the result of a military operation, but the direct consequence of an internal betrayal that exposed deep fractures within the group.

The Operation

On January 1, 2026, in the municipality of Mirití Paraná (Amazonas), the Armed Forces carried out an offensive operation deep in the jungle. During the clashes, alias Polo, who served as the principal commander of the structure, was neutralized. Initially, the event was presented as a strategic blow; however, revelations soon emerged that changed the narrative.

A Leadership Marked by Ambition

Alias Polo had spent more than eight years within the dissident ranks and was a trusted figure in Iván Mordisco’s inner circle. Following the death of alias Yenni in October 2025, he was appointed as her successor. Beyond commanding armed men, he controlled the finances, logistics of the Amazonas Block, and the planning of terrorist actions in Caquetá, Putumayo, and Amazonas—amassing power that ultimately left him isolated.

The Enemy Was Within

Discontent grew in alias Junior, second-in-command and close to the late Yenni, who never accepted being displaced from leadership. The dispute intensified over control of illegal finances, particularly those stemming from illicit mining near the Caquetá River—resources managed exclusively by the top commander.

The Betrayal That Sealed His Fate

Driven by ambition, alias Junior allegedly leaked key information about Polo’s location to the security forces. This betrayal enabled the precise execution of the operation that ended the leader’s life, laying bare the fragility of loyalties within organized crime.

A Criminal Chessboard Under Tension

While the operation was a military success, it revealed that internal power struggles can be as lethal as armed confrontations. The future of the Jhonier Arenas group is uncertain, raising questions that keep the region on edge:

Will alias Junior manage to seize command?
Can Iván Mordisco prevent an internal war?
Will this betrayal unleash a new wave of violence in the Amazon?

The fall of alias Polo is more than the death of a criminal leader: it is proof of how ambition and betrayal continue to weaken illegal armed structures from within.
